Shek O #1

Location: Shek O Village/Headland

We can reach the top of Shek O Headland after a 10-minute walk from the bus terminus.  The boulders around the headland are all granite.  The rock surface is weathered by solution.  Soluble salts are removed from the rocks due to salt spray.  It is brought by the strong easterlies as the rock coast faces east.  With long fetch and deep offshore coast, this part of the coast is seriously eroded by waves.  The background of the picture is the far eastern part of HK. 

On the south of the headland, you can see Shek O Beach which is always filled with holiday-makers.  You can also experience the strong prevailing winds on the rocky coast.
